Microsoft paid $1.2B for Gartner's upper right hand magic quadrant for enterprise search. Autonomy was too much $ and Endeca didn't have the inside the firewall cred. As soon as the next version of SharePoint comes out, nobody will ever speak of FAST again. The SharePoint machine chugs on.

Quick response to the comments: (1) agree that not everything you read is true, (2) in reality it's probably not that surprising -- acquirers typically do look at multiple entrants in a category, (3) I'd not specifically heard the "passed on Endeca" thing before which is why I posted on it (presumably they'd have been cheaper than $1.2B!), (4) in the end the post (as they often do) wandered off the headline and talked more about Fast than Endeca!

So? Of course they would have looked at all the companies that might give them traction against Google. It doesn't say that they actually engaged with any of those companies, or do you have other information?

I could see Steve Papa passing on a deal with MICROSOFT. Now with a 10% RIF and almost a 50% decrease in sales I hope he is proud of his accomplishments.

What a disservice he and the board have done to all of the shareholders and employees.
