Dave, you might want to know that one of the presenters at the STM Spring Conference (which you guys co-sponsored) was lambasting Scribd as enemy #1 (or at least top 3) for publishers. That was news to me--like you, I post my presentations online (though I favor SlideShare).
Thanks for sharing and not surprising. Something about "guns don't kill people, people kill people" comes to mind.
Scribd or SlideShare are just tools and I use both (SlideShare for presentations and Scribd for documents).
Both can be abused by posting stuff you have no right to, but the tools themselves are not evil. It's all what you use them for, or more specifically what you share with them share, and whether you have the right to share it.
